In a recent meeting with the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, pledged enhanced welfare for National Assembly staff. During the visit, Speaker Abbas acknowledged the legitimate concerns of Nigerians and urged patience, emphasizing the government's commitment to implementing initiatives to improve citizens' living standards.

Addressing the PASAN leadership, led by National President Comrade Muhammad Usman and NASS chapter chairman Comrade Sunday Sabiyi, Speaker Abbas urged them to act as a bridge of conciliation between the National Assembly leadership and organized labor. He conveyed a message of hope, assuring workers that positive changes, including palliatives and salary reviews, are on the horizon.

The Speaker expressed gratitude for PASAN's acknowledgment of positive outcomes resulting from his interventions, citing improved welfare packages and the payment of pending allowances by the new management. Despite outstanding arrears tied to issues with the Salaries and Wages Commission, Speaker Abbas committed to resolving the matter promptly.

In response, PASAN National President Comrade Usman affirmed the union's support and cooperation with the National Assembly leadership, highlighting the payment of backlog allowances and entitlements. He expressed solidarity with the organized labor protest, clarifying that it aimed to show support rather than cause discomfort for the National Assembly.

Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, signed the statement, underscoring the commitment to transparent communication between the National Assembly and its staff.

The assurance of improved welfare comes as the National Assembly navigates a collaborative path with staff and organized labor to achieve its legislative agenda, with both sides emphasizing the importance of continued support and cooperation.
